City and surrounding

The Municipality of Roerdalen is situated in Midden-Limburg and is made up of the villages of Herkenbosch, Melick, Montfort, Posterholt, Sint Odiliënberg and Vlodrop. The outer region comprises the hamlets of Borg, Etsberg, Holst, Lerop, Paarlo, ‘t Reutje, Varsten and Waterschei. Our municipality contains a number of unique buildings and monuments, such as Castle Daelenbroek, The Gitstappermolen, a corn mill belt and Castle Montfort. Roerdalen is famed for its lovely nature, including De Meinweg National Park and the Roer Valley.
Posterholt is situated near the German border and also about 10 kilometers from Roermond.
Roermond is known by a rich cultural heritage. Since 1559 it has been a bishop city.
In the center you will find many historical (church) buildings. Roermond is also the city of Pierre Cuypers, according to many the most important Dutch architect of the 19th century.
Also you will find here many charming squares where you can enjoy Burgundian Limburg on the terraces. Moreover Roermond is a great shopping city. From nice boutiques in historic buildings in the downtown, to the Designer Outlet Centre, which attracts annually more than five million fashionistas and bargain hunters.
